SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team had three players selected to the All-West Coast Conference teams. Highlighting the trio is first-team All-WCC honoree sophomore guard Dominique Conners, while junior guard Sam Child earned All-WCC honorable mention accolades and freshman forward Felicia Wijenberg was selected to the All-WCC freshman team.
Conners, a 5-10 sophomore from Oceanside, Calif., was named to the team after averaging 18.3 ppg in conference games, while also pulling down 5.1 boards per game and racking up 32 steals. This is Conners' second consecutive All-WCC honor as she was selected to the All-WCC freshman team last season. Conners took home two WCC Player of the Week honors, and was named the MVP of the Maggie Dixon Surf N Slam Classic. Overall, Conners averaged a team-best 16.1 ppg, good for fourth best a USD in the single-season records, and she recorded 73 steals, which is good for third best in a single-season at USD.
Child, a 6-0 guard from Portland, Ore., takes home her second All-WCC award as she was an All-WCC freshman team honoree during her freshman season. This season, Child helped lead the USD offense as she was USD's second best scoring option with a 11.6 ppg average overall. During WCC games, Child averaged 9.9 ppg en route to helping lead USD to a tie for fourth place in the WCC standings. Child was also selected to the All-Tournament team of the Maggie Dixon Surf N Slam Classic.
Wijenberg, a 6-2 forward from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, was slow to start out the season because of injury, but once conference play hit Wijenberg found herself earning a lot of minutes on the court. Over the last month of the season, Wijenberg recorded a pair of double doubles, one against No. 19 Gonzaga with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and her second came in the regular-season finale as she recorded 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against Pepperdine. On the season, Wijenberg averaged 2.6 ppg and 3.6 ppg in WCC games.
Conners, Child and Wijenberg along with the rest of the Toreros will return to action on Friday as they open play in the WCC Tournament against Santa Clara at 5 p.m. inside of the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
