SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team had three players honored on the All-West Coast Conference teams, highlighted by first-team selection Amy Kame. Taking home Newcomer of the Year honors is freshman guard Maya Hood, while Katelyn McDaniel and Hood were named to the Honorable Mention team. Hood was also selected as a member of the All-Freshman team.
Kame, a 6-0 junior guard from Grand Junction, Colo., is currently the team's leading scorer with an average of 15.7 ppg, while shooting .403 from the field. Kame was named the WCC Player of the Month for November, and has taken home one WCC Player of the Week award this season. Kame has now scored 20 or more points in six games this season, and has scored in double figures in all but seven of the 28 games she has played in.
McDaniel, a 6-1 forward from Littleton, Colo., is currently the second leading scorer for the Toreros at 10.8 ppg. McDaniel leads the team in double-doubles with five, and she has managed to score in double figures in 16 of the 28 games this season. And in games that she has started, McDaniel has recorded double figures in 11 of the 14. McDaniel is also the team's second leading rebounder at 6.8 boards-per-game. IN WCC games, McDaniel has averaged 13.0 ppg, while pulling down 7.5 rebounds-per-game and she is shooting an even .500 from the field.
Hood, a 5-10 guard from San Diego, is the team's third leading scorer with a 10.6 ppg average. Hood has now scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 games and five consecutive games. Hood has scored in double figures in 17 games this season all together, and she has posted two double-doubles. In WCC action, Hood averaged 11.4 ppg, while shooting .549 from the field.
The second-seeded Toreros will open play at the WCC Tournament on Saturday, as thery have received a bye all the way to the semi finals. USD's opponent is yet to be determined, but they will tip off at 2:30 p.m.
