Junior forward Felicia Wijenberg also scored in double-digits, chipping in 13 points along with seven rebounds. The Toreros played great defense, forcing 23 Sea Lion turnovers while holding them to 33.3% shooting from the field.
TOREROS ON TV: USD will play its lone television game of the season on Saturday, when they welcome cross-town rival San Diego State to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a 3:30 tip. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports San Diego with Mike Pomeranz and Jud Buechler on the call.
GOING STREAKING: San Diego is in the midst of a five-game winning streak heading into Saturday's match-up with San Diego State. During this five-game winning streak, USD is averaging 80.2 ppg, while shooting .507 from the field and holding opponents to just a .311 shooting percentage. Three players are averaging double figures, paced by Amy Kame's 18.0 ppg. USD is also out rebounding their opponents 161-109 in this stretch.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS: San Diego State enters the week with an overall record of 4-2 after defeating USC, 80-46, this past Friday in a non-conference game. The Aztecs lead the all-time series at 22-9, but the Toreros did win last season's meeting over at Viejas Arena, 56-45. The SDSU offense is paced by senior guard Courtney Clements, who is averaging 18.8 ppg. The only other Aztec player averaging double figures is Chelsea Hopkins, who scores at an average of 10.8 ppg.
LAST TIME VS THE AZTECS: A big second half sparked off a strong defensive effort, and Dominique Conners' season-high 22 points, the University of San Diego women's basketball team (6-2) picked up a 56-45 win over cross-town rival San Diego State University (4-4) on Dec. 8, 2011 in a non-conference game at Viejas Arena. Conners led all players with her season-high 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting, while pulling down five rebounds and recording four steals. Both Morgan Woodrow and Amy Kame had 10 points apiece to round off the USD scoring attack. Izzy Chilcott also had a huge game for the Toreros, as she recorded 10 rebounds and helped hold the normally potent SDSU offense in check all game long. As a team, USD shot .333 from the field, and was out rebounded for only the second time this season, 44-42.
DOUBLE THE PLEASURE, DOUBLE THE FUN: USD senior forward Klara Wischer recorded her first collegiate double-double in Tuesday's win over Point Loma, as she recorded a career-high 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Wischer scored her career-high 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, while also recording two steals, and one assist.
PROTECT THIS HOUSE: San Diego is 4-0 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion this season. While at home, the Toreros are averaging 79.8 points per game on .487 shooting. They are holding their opponents to just .307 shooting from the field while winning by an average margin of 30.8 points per game.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Toreros will hit the road next week for a Dec. 12 showdown with Arizona State at 11 a.m., then will return home on Dec. 15 for a 2 p.m. game against Long Beach State.
KAME TABBED WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior guard Amy Kame of the University of San Diego women's basketball team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. Kame, a 6-0 guard from Grand Junction Colo., had one of the best all-around performances of her career this past week, as she helped pace USD to a 2-0 record to move the Toreros to 5-1 on the year. She led the Torero scoring effort with an average of 17.5 ppg, while also averaging 9.0 rebounds-per-game, 8.0 steals-per-game, and 7.0 assists-per-game. She began the week with a 18-point, 8-rebound, 7-assist and career-high 9-steal performance in a win over Boise State. She then fol- lowed that up with a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and she added in seven assists and recorded seven steals in a blowout win over Air Force. For her efforts, she was not only named the Air Force Tournament's MVP, but she has been named the Madness West Coast Women's Player of the Week. On the season, Kame paces USD's scoring with an average of 17.0 ppg, and is second in rebounding at 6.7 rpg.
MY, OH, MY, OH MAYA: Freshman sensation Maya Hood continues her impressive start to the season, as last week she scored a career-high 19 points in the win over Air Force. Hood scored her 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while adding in six rebounds. This marked the third game in which she has scored in double figures. Overall, Hood is tied with Katelyn McDaniel as the Toreros second-leading scorer at 10.0 ppg.
K-MAC MAKING AN IMPACT: Sophomore forward Katelyn McDaniel continues her break-out type season, as she was impressive once again last week, averaging 14.5 ppg, while shooting an unprecedented .900 from the field (9-of-10) and she was perfect from the free throw line, going 11-for-11. In fact, during USD's five-game win streak, McDaniel is shooting .786 from the floor (22-28) while only missing two free throws (19-21). McDaniel began last week with a 16-point and six rebound performance against Boise State, then she followed that up with a 13-point and six rebound performance against Air Force. Overall, McDaniel is tied with Maya Hood as USD's second leading scorer with an average of 10.0 ppg, while shooting an impressive .767 (23-30) from the field, and she is shooting .889 (24-27) from the charity stripe.
KAME NAMED PRESEASON ALL-WCC: The Toreros welcome back one All-WCC performer from a year ago in the form of Amy Kame. Kame, a 6-0 junior guard from Grand Junction, Colo., made a splash in her second season with the team, as she took home All-WCC honorable mention accolades for the first time last season. Kame was USD's third leading scorer on the season, as she scored an average of 11.4 ppg. In WCC games, Kame averaged 11.0 ppg, while shooting .424 from the field in conference games. Kame managed to score in double figures in 15 of the 22 games she played in. Kame scored a career-high of 24 points against Portland on Mar. 2, 2012.
TOREROS TABBED TO FINISH FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL: The University of San Diego women's basketball team was tabbed to finish fourth in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches poll. Brigham Young University has been selected to win the WCC women's basketball championship in a preseason poll of the WCC's nine head coaches. The Cougars received five out of a possible eight first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team), just one more first-place vote than second-place Gonzaga. This is the first time in five years that a team other than Gonzaga has selected by the coaches to win the WCC (San Diego, 2007-08).
GAMETRACKER AVAILABLE: All San Diego women's basketball home and select road games can be followed live via Gametracker on the Toreros athletic web site at www.usdtoreros.com. Gametracker is a service of CBS College Sports, the official web provider for San Diego athletics, and is a real time update of the action.

MEET THE COACH: Head coach Cindy Fisher is entering her eighth season at the helm of the Toreros program. She was named the program's third head coach on April 19, 2005. The 2012-13 season was a historical one for the Toreros, as it is now the greatest season in program history. Under Fisher's tutelage, the Toreros soared to new heights, and were in uncharted waters. USD posted a program best 26-9 overall record, posted a 12-4 mark in WCC play (the most wins in WCC play in program history) and they recorded the program's first ever post season win. Not only was the first ever post season win, but the Toreros advanced all the way to the Final Four of the WNIT, before falling to eventual WNIT champions Oklahoma State. In 2008, Fisher led USD to the WCC Tournament championship and back into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight seasons. In only her second season at the helm of the program, Fisher orchestrated the biggest turn around in school history, a 12-game improvement from 9-19 in the 2005-06 season to a 21-9 record in 2006-07 season. The turn around was the fourth best in the nation. Under her tutelage, the Toreros placed three players on the All-WCC lists highlighted by Amanda Rego being named the WCC Co-Player of the Year. For her efforts, Fisher was named the 2007 WCC Co-Coach of the Year.
