USF Deals USD a 81-72 Loss
Junior forward Sydney Williams scored a career-high 19, and Caroline Buhr also had a career-high with 17 points, but it wasn’t enough, as the University of San Diego women’s basketball team dropped a 81-72 West Coast Conference game to the Dons of the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym.

Toreros Downed at Pepperdine 57-40
The USD women’s basketball team (11-13, 5-9) fell at Pepperdine 57-40 Saturday afternoon. With their offense struggling, the Toreros trailed the entire game and scored a season-low 40 points. Sydney Williams led the way for USD, scoring 10 points and pulling down six rebounds.

SAN DIEGO - After a 12-day break for finals and the holidays, the Toreros (7-4) hit the road to begin their conference schedule this week. They play at San Fran¬cisco Thursday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. and then at Pepperdine Saturday December 30 at 1:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The USD women’s basketball (7-4) team cruised past UT San Antonio 78-69 on Saturday December 16 inside the JCP. The Toreros scored 35 points in the first quarter and then maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the game.

The Toreros had three players score in double-figures, led by Alexandra Hagen’s career high 25 points. Sydney Williams and Maya Hood each scored 16 points and Hood notched a double-double with 10 rebounds. Williams has scored at least 16 points in each of the past three games.

The Tore¬ros shot 49 percent and never trailed the entire game. They forced 20 turnovers which resulted in 23 points. USD had 18 assists while the Roadrunners had just six. Early in the first quarter the Toreros had a stretch where they made nine out of ten shots, which was part of an 8-0 run which gave them a 17-9 lead. The Toreros held the lead for the rest of the game.

USD scored a season-high 35 first quarter points. They shot 70 percent (14-for-20) with Alexandra Hagen and Sydney Williams each scoring ten points. The Toreros built their lead to 18 points (47-29), but the Roadrunners responded with a 9-0 run to cut the score to 47-38 late in the second quarter. USD scored the final four points of the half to take a 51-38 lead in to the locker room.

For the first this season, the Toreros had three players in double-digits at the half. Hagen had 16, Williams had 12 and Maya Hood had 11 points. The closest Roadrunners would get in the sec¬ond half is eight points, while USD pushed their lead to as large as 14 points.

SCOUTING THE DONS: San Francisco is 5-5 on the season...They went 18-13 last year and 11-7 in conference... This year they have the most three-point field goal attempts and makes in the conference... They have the fewest turnovers and are second in rebounds per game (41.9)... Anna Seilund is shooting a WCC best 41 percent from three-point territory is second in the conference with 5.6 assists per game... Michaela Rakova is aver¬aging a team-high eight rebounds per game... Head Coach Molly Goodenbour is in her second season at USF... The Toreros lead the all-time series 38-30, but the Dons have won the last four meetings.

SCOUTING THE WAVES: Pepperdine is 4-6 on the year and is in the midst of a three game losing streak... They host Santa Clara on December 28... The Waves are first in the conference in free-throws made and second in FT attempts... Yas¬mine Robinson-Bacote is averaging 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.... Delisha Milton-Jones is in her first year as the Waves' Head Coach. She has the WNBA record for most career games played and is ninth all-time in scoring... The Waves leads the all-time series 41-33 and won both meetings last year.
