AUSTIN, TX - The Torero women's rowing team swept Iowa on the final day of competition at the Longhorn Invitational on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, TX. USD's V8 put together the fastest time of any squad on Sunday with their winning time of 6:29.2.
Sunday's action wraps up a very successful showing for USD among some top competition from major conferences. The Toreros posted team sweeps over Tulsa (Friday), Kansas State (Saturday) and Iowa (Sunday), in addition to a novice eight win over Oklahoma on Saturday morning.
USD started the day with a win from their novice eight, who finished almost 20 seconds ahead of the Hawkeyes. The Toreros came in at 7:03.2, while Iowa trailed at 7:22.8.
The V4 followed with an eight-second victory, clocking a 7:37.0, compared to Iowa's 7:45.2. USD's 2V8 finished at 6:48.0, while Iowa came in at 7:00.7 and the Toreros' V8 capped it all off by cruising past Iowa in the teams' final race, winning by nearly 20 seconds. USD finished in 6:29.2, while the Hawkeyes turned in a time of 6:47.6.
Score totals were kept on Friday and Saturday as a means to determine which squads raced each other on Sunday morning. The Toreros were in third place after Saturday's action right behind Texas and Oklahoma. Points were awarded for Sunday's results, but were not cumulative for the entire weekend. USD scored all 20 points since they won all four of their races against Iowa.
The USD women's rowing squad will hit the water again when they compete in the San Diego Crew Classic Apr. 6 & 7 on Mission Bay.
