Toreros sweep San Diego Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's rowing team had a successful day on the waters at Mission Bay for the annual San Diego Fall Classic Sunday morning. Of the four events USD entered, they finished first in each.
San Diego opened with their Novice 8 boat capturing a convincing first place victory over cross-town rival San Diego State. The Toreros had a 39 second lead over the Aztec novice boat finishing in 18:54.
The Novice 4 boat tackled the course next putting up a 34 second lead over San Diego State with a finish time of 23:30. The trailing San Diego State A boat crossed at 24:04 while the Aztec B boat had a time of 24:34. The Varsity 4+ boat raced solo down the course competing only against the clock finishing in 23:13.
Wrapping up the morning was the Varsity 8 showdown. USD's Collegiate 8 boat powered down the course with a solid lead throughout the race. The University of San Diego crossed with a 14 second lead over the Aztecs taking first place in 17:59. SDSU A boat had a finish time of 18:13.
"This was another great opportunity for our girls to get out there and apply their training in a race environment," said head coach Kim Cupini.
The Toreros take the next three weeks to prepare for their final event of
the Fall Schedule, the Long Beach Christmas Regatta held on December 5 at
the Long Beach Harbor. Race details will be announced soon for spectators
planning to attend.
