Five Toreros recognized for WCC All-Academic honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the 2016-17 West Coast Conference Women's Rowing All-Academic Team.  San Diego senior Meredith Hoggatt was the lone WCC student-athlete recognized as a first team recipient for the third time, while senior Megan Goodman was one of three student-athletes named to the first team for the second time.

Hoggatt (Parker, Colorado) owns a 3.84 grade-point average in Mechanical Engineering.  Goodman (Pleasanton, California) owns a 3.62 grade-point average in International Relations and Spanish.  Senior Karli Wittenberg (Mequon, WI) was selected for the first time - she carries a 3.61 GPA in Biochemistry.  Earning honorable mention recognition were USD senior Uche Anyanwu (San Diego, Calif.; 3.27 GPA / Business Administration) and junior Jane Bird (Everett, Wash.; 3.42 GPA / Marketing).  All five Toreros are members of USD's varsity eight boat.

The University of San Diego women's rowing team will compete in the WCC Championships Saturday morning at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Toreros are seeking their fifth WCC Championship in the past eight years.

Seventeen student-athletes were named to the first-team, with four being named for the second time and one being named for the third time. All told, fourteen West Coast Conference women's rowers own a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or better and forty-seven posted a GPA of 3.50 or better.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport.  To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. No fewer than 84 WCC student-athletes met the academic criteria for women's rowing.
