SAN DIEGO, Calif. - US Olympic gold medalist Susan Francia will speak at the USD rowing alumni event on Friday evening at the Garty Pavilion. Francia recently began coaching the junior women's team at the San Diego Rowing Club.
Francia began rowing in 2001 at the University of Pennsylvania. Francia has been on the national team since 2005 and, among many accomplishments, has won two gold medals in the Olympic 8+ in 2008 Beijing and 2012 London.
Francia's olympic boat set the world record for Women's 8 this past summer in their heat in the eight at the 2012 Samsung World Rowing Cup II with a time of 5:54:17. She was awarded USRowing's female athlete of the year in 2010.
Susan is an amazing athlete and a great asset in the San Diego rowing community.
The night's schedule will begin at 6 pm to 7:30 pm with a parade of boats, food and drinks and Francia's appearance. That will be followed by a bonfire and s'mores on the beach. The USD Boathouse is located at 1220 El Carmel Pt. SD, CA 92109.
