Toreros Welcome Four New Rowers

SAN DIEGO – San Diego rowing welcomed new Toreros last week when Maria Polanco, Amanda Finnie, Isla Blake and Blythe ter Kuile signed a National Letter of Intent to join the team in the fall of 2018.

The four women will join a team that is consistently top in conference and has made a waves nationally, including an appearance at the NCAAs in 2014 where the team placed 15th.

  • 2nd place in the 2017 World Rowing Youth Championships.
  • 1st place in the 2017 Passaic River Sprints.
  • 1st place in the 2015 Overpeck Regional Youth Regatta.
  • 1st place in the 2014 Metropolitan Youth Speed Order.
  • Holds her team's 2k record for female varsity athlete.
  • Qualified for a selective College program that allowed her to take challenging college courses.

  • 2017 NZ junior traillist.
  • Top level two math student in 2015.

  • Received bronze in the V2x at New York States.
  • Competed at Head of the Charles: V2x in 2015 with Pelham Community Rowing Association, V8+ in 2016 with City Island Rowing, and stroked the V8+ in 2017.
  • Won a $5,000 grant for a non-profit charity that helps bring art to inner city kids.

"I chose USD because of the feeling that I got once I visited. I had really liked the school before I went on my official, but after meeting the coaches and the team and seeing San Diego, I really fell in love with it. What stuck out to me the most was how happy all the girls on the team were, even though they were working incredibly hard they were still smiling and able to have a positive energy."

  • Specialized in small-boat sculling.
  • Placed in top positions at local regattas.
  • Placed fifth at the B.C Championships Regatta in the single.

  • On Collingwood’s honor roll throughout her high school career.
