Any Epsten was Named the WCC Player of the Week.
Aug. 28, 2006
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego's junior forward Amy Epsten has been named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week.
Epsten was a huge part of the Toreros getting off to a 2-0 start through the first week of play in the 2006 season. Epsten tallied two goals, one a game-winner, for a team-leading four points.
Epsten and the Toreros notched victories over Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara this past weekend. In the Cal Poly match, the Toreros scored two goals in a 66 second span to claim the 3-2 victory. This past Sunday USD shutout the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara, 2-0, in their home opener. The Gauchos, who tied No. 17 USC this past Friday, were not able to get a shot off until the 59th minute of the match as USD's defense locked down on the Gauchos' front line. Epsten scored the game-winner in the sixth minute of the match when she corralled a pass from Natalie Vinti and punched it into the back of the net to give USD the only goal they would need.
Epsten and the Toreros will return to the pitch this Friday as they open play in the Pepperdine Tournament against the University of Dayton at 1:00 p.m.
