LAST TIME OUT
USD split a pair of contests last week, falling 3-0 at Fullerton and bouncing back at CSUN with a 2-0 victory.
Summer Mason scored twice at CSUN to double her goals on the year to four. She leads the team in points (9) and goals (4).
Goalkeeper Amber Michel made seven first-half saves, including stopping a penalty kick to help the Toreros secure the victory at CSUN. It was the second straight week Michel has stopped a penalty kick after doing so on Sept. 15 against UC Irvine. She has saved 3-of-5 penalty kick attempts this season.
MASON LEADS THE OFFENSE
Summer Mason has been a bright spot up top for the Toreros and leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist. She utilizes her speed and quick change of pace to evade defenders and set up opportunities for USD in the final third.
USD's defense has had a quality start to the season and been a key component to keeping the Toreros within striking distance in each game.
Michel has registered four or more saves in 6-of-10 games this season, including a career-best 10 stops against Texas A&M (Aug. 20). She made seven saves in the first half at CSUN (Sept. 24) - a career best for one half.
The Toreros backline - consisting primarily of Emma Barrow, Courtney Coate, Natalie Copenhaver and Tara Meier - have done well to limit the opposition's attack through the center of the field and push attackers out wide.
BYU SERIES HISTORY
The Toreros are 2-6 all-time against BYU, with its most recent victory coming on Oct. 29, 2011. The Cougars have won the past five meetings, including last year's affair by a score of, 2-1.
LIEBERMAN'S FIRST SEASON
Head coach Louise Lieberman is in her first season as a head coach with USD during 2017. She is the fourth head coach in program history.
Lieberman joined the Toreros after serving as the assistant head coach at UCLA for the past eight seasons. While with the Bruins, she helped lead the team to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, two College Cup appearances and the 2013 NCAA Championship - the first in program history.
Lieberman was a four-year letterwinner as a player at UCLA from 1995-98, and was a second-time All-Pac-12 selection in 1995. She helped the Bruis claim its first two Pac-12 championships in 1997 and 1998.
