SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Senior striker Stephanie Ochs of the University of San Diego women's soccer team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning.
Ochs, a 5-9 senior from San Diego, earns her second WCC Player of the Week award of 2011 after leading the Toreros to their first win over Portland in over a decade. Ochs scored San Diego's first goal in the 37th minute, and assisted on the game-winner as USD picked up the 2-1 win at UP's Merlo Field. USD became the first WCC opponent to defeat the Pilots on their home field in nine years. UP went 26-0-2 against conference foes at Merlo Field during that time, including 16 straight wins. USD also snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Pilots with the win, and they picked up their first win over Portland since the 2000 season. Ochs has now tallied a team-leading eighth goal of the season, and she also recorded her fourth assist, to give her a team-leading 20 points.
Ochs and the red hot Toreros will return to action on Friday as they host the Saint Mary's Gaels at 7:30 p.m.
