SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer (7-11-0, 3-4-0) team dropped a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to Santa Clara (10-3-5, 3-1-2) Sunday afternoon. Bronco midfielder Meleana Shim scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to give the Toreros their fourth consecutive conference loss.

The Broncos got on the scoreboard first in the 12th minute when Sophie Huerta snuck it past Torero goalkeeper Michelle Craft after beating her defender with a spin move.

The Broncos would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute after Julie Johnston was able to put back a Dani Weatherholt shot attempt that had ricocheted off the post.

The Toreros answered back minutes later when junior midfielder Kelley McCloskey blasted a free kick from just outside the box past Bronco keeper Andi Tostanoski. It was McCloskey's third goal of the season, which ties her for the team lead with Emily Dillon and Dani Russell.

Despite being outshot 17-2 in the first half, the Toreros would head into halftime down just 2-1.

The Toreros made it interesting when Erica Peeples was able to take advantage of a Bronco defensive miscue and scored a sliding goal in the 84th minute to tie the match at 2-2.

The Broncos answered back four minutes later with the game-winning goal when Shim was able to finish a through ball from Huerta.

The Toreros were outshot 24-5, but all five of their shot attempts were on target.

Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Craft, who made a rare start, saved four shots but allowed two goals. McKenna Tollack took over in the second half and made four saves, but allowed the game-winning goal. Bronco keeper Andi Tostanoski improved her record to 9-3-4 while making three saves.

The Toreros will close out the 2012 season Friday evening at home against Gonzaga (7-9-1, 1-4-1). Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
