SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros finished day two of the USD Invitational with a loss to University of Illinois-Chicago Flames in the afternoon game, and a 6-0 loss to Long Beach State University in the night cap.
With USD designated as the visiting team in the afternoon game, they led off at the plate. The Toreros jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior Kathleen Bonja doubled with two outs. Junior Lindsay fleet hit a single deep into the outfield allowing Bonja to come around and score for the 1-0 lead.
The flames went on a hit parade in the bottom half of the inning as six batters scored off of six hits lifting UIC to a 6-1 lead. The Toreros held the Flames scoreless through the fourth inning, however were unable to post another run. In the bottom of the fifth inning, UIC posted three runs on four hits to eight run rule USD halting the game at 9-1.
In the night cap game, Long Beach State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a pair of singles. USD held the 49ers scoreless through the 5th inning before they added on two runs to extend their lead 3-0. Long Beach State extended their lead further in the 7th inning when they added three runs for a 6-0 lead after the Toreros committed two errors.
USD falls to 0-3 overall on the season. The Toreros return to the diamond Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. when they take on the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames at the USD Softball Complex.
