SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team suffered a 5-0 loss to Missouri on Saturday afternoon at the Gaucho Classic on the campus of UC Santa Barbara. The Toreros (2-3) struggled to get things going offensively as they were held to just two hits on the day. Mizzou (4-0) came into the weekend ranked No. 7 by the NFCA.

Neither team built up any offensive momentum until the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers went up 1-0 on a solo home run.

Missouri then added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory. A leadoff solo homer started off the Tigers' half of the inning, followed by a throwing error by the catcher that allowed a run to score and an RBI double and RBI single that gave Missouri their final 5-0 advantage.

The Toreros went down in order in the top of the sixth and seventh to close out the contest.

Jenny Lahitte (1-2) took the loss for USD after throwing 6.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

3B Chloe Kaneko had a double on the day, while RF Lauren Tomey collected the other Torero hit with a single in the first inning.

This was just the second meeting between USD and Missouri. The Tigers won the previous contest back in 2009.

USD will wrap up play at the Gaucho Classic on Sunday with a doubleheader. Game one vs. Fresno State is set for 11:15 am with game two following at 1 pm against UCSB.
