SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD Softball team (3-8) had their home opener spoiled by the Grand Canyon Antelopes (9-8) Thursday evening, dropping a 3-1 contest. Kylie Ordos had the Toreros' lone run RBI, hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth.
The Antelopes scored one run in the first, third, and fourth to open up a 3-0 lead. In the first inning, GCU's leadoff hitter Haley Walker reached after being hit by a Cassidy Coleman pitch. After stealing second, she scored on a double to right center by Lauren Regester.
In the third inning, Grand Canyon scored a run on a bases loaded infield single. They would tack on one more the following inning on a RBI single up the middle.
The Toreros got their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on first and third, Kylie Ordos hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in Kylie McNutt, who had pinch ran for Caitlin Rooney.
That would be all the scoring for the Toreros, who managed just four hits. Cassidy Coleman (1-3) also takes the loss despite striking out seven and allowing just two earned runs on four hits.
The Toreros will face Utah (2:00 p.m.) and Utah State (4:30 p.m.) tomorrow, weather permitting.
