SAN DIEGO – Emili Olague delivered a pinch-hit walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead San Diego to a 3-2 victory against CSUN on Sunday afternoon and conclude play at the San Diego Classic.
The Toreros (11-11) wrapped up the tournament co-hosted with San Diego State by splitting a pair of decisions Sunday against Oregon State and the Matadors (8-13).
USD opened the day with a 5-1 loss against the Beavers (13-8) but Olague made sure the weekend ended on a high note with a walk-off RBI-single against CSUN in the final game of the tournament.

The Toreros went 2-3 overall on the weekend with victories against Colorado State and CSUN. USD dropped decisions against No. 22 Long Beach State, No. 3 UCLA and Oregon State.
Reigning WCC Player of the Week, Taylor Spence, stayed hot at the plate and batted .538 (7-for-13) with three runs, three walks, two stolen bases and an RBI. Sara Silveyra also had a nice weekend, going 6-for-14 (.429) with three walks and two RBIs.
Delaney Heller paced the Toreros in the circle, going 2-1 on the weekend and holding opponents to a .231 batting average with a team-high 14 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings.
Kailey Hill went 2-for-3 and the Toreros reached base in six-of-seven innings but could not keep pace with Oregon State as USD fell, 5-1.
The Toreros did well to get runners on base but had trouble capitalizing, going just 2-of-16 with runners on base and 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position. The Beavers were able to convert on their chances and went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Heller got the start but ran into trouble in the second inning as the Beavers jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Halle Kyler came in as relief and was outstanding, holding Oregon State scoreless with four hits and one walk.
The Toreros lone run came in the sixth inning when Savannah Shields put the ball in play and reached on a fielding error by the Beavers’ second baseman which allowed Hill to score.
Hannah Gilliland singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh but USD was unable to mount a comeback.
Olague provided the heroics in extra innings against CSUN. With one out and a runner on third, Olague singled to center field to bring in Kyler and give the Toreros a 3-2 win.
Hannah Boos got the start and was excellent through 5 1/3 innings, holding the Matadors to two runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Heller (4-4) came in to close the game and held CSUN scoreless, permitting just one hit and no walks with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Spence and Madison Casiano led USD offensively, both registering a pair of hits. Spence also contributed an RBI and a walk.
The Toreros defense played excellent and did not commit any errors. Spence provided the defensive highlight of the game with a diving catch on a hard-hit dipping fly ball to shallow center field in the top of the seventh inning.
The Matadors had a tough day in the field, committing four errors. USD made the most of the opportunities, scoring their first two runs with the aid of two CSUN errors.
Next week, USD will make its second trip to Arizona this season – this time to Tucson – for the Wildcat Invitational.
