SANTEE, Calif. - The USD softball squad finished the San Diego Classic II in thrilling fashion on Sunday afternoon with a pair of walk-off victories at the Santee Sportsplex. The Toreros (15-12) edged Fairfield 3-2 in 10 innings in game one before earning a 2-1 win over Harvard in game two.

Fairfield (8-8) loaded the bases in the top of first but Coleman was able to induce a groundout to end the inning without allowing a run to score.

USD put up their first run in the bottom of the second where, with one out and runners at second and third, Mickell Escobar laid down a bunt towards third base. The charging Fairfield third baseman was unable to make a play to get Ordos at home, giving USD a 1-0 lead.

Fairfield answered in the top of the second with an RBI single to left field where USD first baseman Caitlin Rooney also committed a throwing error trying to catch the trailing runner advancing from second to third, resulting in another Fairfield run coming across.

Lauren Tomey helped the Toreros even it right back up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Dana Prelsnik from third.

It was just a matter of time before one team finally capitalized on their opportunities as each squad seemed to constantly have runners in scoring position. Altogether, Fairfield left 13 runners on base and USD 10. The USD infield did a great job of scooping up two-out ground balls, many of which were sharply hit, to prevent Fairfield runners from scoring.

USD got a runner at second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Rooney hit what looked like the potential game-winning hit, but Fairfield's second baseman leaped straight up to snag the line drive and force extra innings.

Rooney took advantage of her next opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 10th, however, as she ripped a one-out single up the middle that scored Morgan Kurtz and gave USD the 3-2 walk-off victory.

Cassidy Coleman (8-5) shut down Fairfield scoring threats left and right throughout the game en route to picking up the win. Coleman threw 10.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits, while striking out seven and walking four.

Rooney stayed hot at the plate with a 3-for-5 showing and an RBI.

In game two, Harvard (5-9) took advantage of a throwing error on a comebacker by USD pitcher Jenny Lahitte to drive in a run two batters later and take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.

The next inning Swanberg laced a single to left field that brought Ordos around from second to tie it at 1-1.

From that point, both teams scattered hits over the next couple innings until Prelsnik came up with two outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh and stroked a single that was just out of reach of the diving Harvard center fielder, scoring Ordos again for the second walk-off victory of the day.

Lahitte (6-7) earned the victory, throwing 7.0 innings where she allowed one run (none earned) on four hits, while striking out eight and walking one.

Swanberg went 2-for-2 with an RBI to highlight the USD offense.

USD returns to the field on Friday, Mar. 22 when they open PCSC play with a doubleheader versus BYU starting at 4 pm from the USD Softball Complex.
