SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros (14-12) dropped a back and forth game to Dartmouth (7-8) 9-6 in extra innings. The Toreros rallied from behind twice, but Dartmouth hit a three run home run in the top of the eighth to take the 9-6 win.

Cassidy Coleman and the Toreros escaped a jam in the first inning when the Big Green had runners on second and third, but ran into some trouble in the following inning. Dartmouth led off the second with a pair of singles, and both of those runners came around to score after USD committed two crucial errors. The Toreros were able to stop the bleeding though after Coleman struck out two straight batters with the bases loaded. Dartmouth stranded seven runners in the first three innings.

Mary Grabowski led off the inning with a rocket single up the middle. After Caitlin Rooney laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Grabowski to second, Olivia Sandusky laced a double into the gap to bring Grabowski home, cutting the Big Green's lead to 2-1. The Toreros tied it up in the following inning when Chloe Kaneko knocked home Dana Prelsnik with a two out RBI single.

The Big Green led off the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles to leftfield, which gave them the lead and ended Coleman's day. Grace Hernandez came in and struck out her first batter before giving up a double to right, which gave Dartmouth a 4-2 lead.

The Toreros rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on, Charly Swanberg belted a three-run home run to left field, giving the Toreros their first lead of the game.

The Toreros couldn't hold off the Dartmouth bats though. The Big Green led off the sixth with a single, followed by a game-tying RBI double. With the tying run 60 feet away, Coach McElvain brought in Jenny Lahitte. She retired three straight batters, but Dartmouth was able to score the go-ahead run on a slow roller to second base.

The Toreros showed their resilience once again in the bottom of the sixth when Olivia Sandusky blasted a leadoff solo home run to dead centerfield to tie it up. The Toreros would load the bases later on in the inning, but couldn't bring the go-ahead run home.

In extra innings, the Big Green grabbed a 9-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Katie McEachern launched a three run home run to deep left field.

Dartmouth's Kristin Rumley (5-4) earned the win, pitching 2.2 hitless innings in relief. Lahitte (6-6) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in three innings.

The Toreros return to action on Saturday when they host UC Santa Barbara at 10:00 a.m. for the first game of the USD Tournament.
