SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD softball team was edged by San Diego State 3-1 in nonconference action on Wednesday evening from the Aztec Softball Stadium.
The Aztecs (23-12) went up 3-0 early with a pair of run-scoring base hits in the bottom of the first. USD starter Cassidy Coleman was able to work out of the bases loaded jam, however, by getting a strikeout to prevent SDSU from adding to the lead. That would wind up being all SDSU would need though.
From that point things were quiet for both teams as they traded zeros for the remainder of the contest. The Aztecs left 10 runners on base in the game, while USD stranded five.
Coleman (8-10) threw 4.0 innings in the loss, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking four. Grace Hernandez turned in a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one and walking one. Jenny Lahitte also made a relief appearance for USD, going the final inning where she allowed one hit and walked one.
The Toreros have the weekend off before returning home on Apr. 13 and 14 to host Cal State Bakersfield for a four-game PCSC series at the USD Softball Complex.
