SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The USD softball team split their doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Santa Clara. The Broncos (7-44, 4-18) captured game one with a 1-0 victory before Jenny Lahitte tossed her own shutout in game two in leading USD (23-28, 8-14) to a 1-0 win.

Santa Clara didn't score their lone run in game one until the bottom of the sixth when Newell delivered an RBI single.

The Toreros threatened by leaving runners on base in five of the seven innings but were unable to drive any across against SCU starter Gonzales, who tossed a three-hit shutout in game one.

Cassidy Coleman (12-13) took the loss for USD despite throwing 7.0 innings where she allowed one run on six hits while striking out nine and walking one.

In game two, USD got an RBI single by Lauren Tomey (2-for-3, RBI) in the top of the first and never looked back as Lahitte scattered six hits while striking out nine en route to the shutout.

The Broncos strung together a brief rally in the bottom of the seventh in game two, putting runners on second and third with two outs before Lahitte closed the door with a strikeout.

The Toreros and Broncos conclude the regular season on Sunday with another doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.
