SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros (19-22, 4-8) host their final home games of the 2013 season when Utah Valley comes to town for a four-game series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 12 pm, while Sunday's double dip is slated for 11 am. Sunday will also be Senior Day at the USD Softball Complex, honoring the Toreros' three seniors: Lauren Tomey, Kimberlee Shimizu and Mickell Escobar. The Utah Valley Wolverines (25-15, 7-5) are coming off a 3-2 win at Utah State on Apr. 16. Utah Valley's last PCSC series was a 2-2 split with BYU at home on Apr. 5-6. Krystin Jachim (.414 avg., 10 2B, 2 HR, 28 RBI) leads the Wolverines offensively, while Amanda Robinson (.366, 7 2B, 5 HR, 23 RBI) and Kylee Brinkerhoff (.301, 7 2B, 3 3B, HR, 13 RBI) have been solid at the plate this season. Tiffany Mills (12-10, 2.08 ERA, 148.1 IP) and Josi Summers (8-5, 2.56, 90.1 IP) have been the Wolverines' top pitchers. UVU is hitting .273 as a team (2nd in the PCSC) with a 2.51 team ERA on the year.
The all-time series is tied at just 1-1 between the two teams, who split a doubleheader in 2006 at USD.

Last Time Out...
The Toreros split with CSU Bakersfield in their most recent PCSC series this past weekend at home and lost 4-1 to San Diego State this past Tuesday at home as well. Morgan Kurtz hit .714 (5-for-7) with four runs scored in the series with Bakersfield, while Lauren Tomey (.455, 2B, R, 2 RBI) and Chloe Kaneko (.417, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) each turned in strong weekends at the plate for USD. In the circle, Cassidy Coleman picked up wins in both of her starts versus the Roadrunners, throwing 12.1 innings where she allowed only two earned runs on 12 hits while striking out nine. Against SDSU, the Toreros got a strong start from Jenny Lahitte (5.0 IP, 3 H, R, 3 K, 3 BB) but were only able to muster one run on an RBI fielder's choice by Mary Grabowski in the loss.
As of Apr. 14, USD ranks 19th in the NCAA in team ERA (1.92), while Caitlin Rooney (8th, K/39.7 AB) and Lauren Tomey (29th, K/24.6 AB) rank among the NCAA's toughest to strikeout. Rooney has struck out only three times in 122 at-bats this season, while Tomey has just five Ks in 126 ABs. RHP Cassidy Coleman is 42nd in the nation in strikeouts per 7.0 IP (8.1), while Jenny Lahitte (1.74) sits at 47th in ERA.
In her last 17 outings, Jenny Lahitte has only allowed three earned runs once and has allowed fewer than that on every other appearance over that span, including 12 appearances where she has allowed one earned run or fewer. The last time Lahitte gave up more than three earned runs was four vs. Boise State on Mar. 2. Likewise, Cassidy Coleman has not allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since Mar. 3 vs. Fresno State, a string of 11 appearances.
Fr. C/DP Mary Grabowski leads the team with four multi-RBI games this year. She has tallied 2 RBI on three occasions and 3 RBI once this season.
OF Morgan Kurtz has been hot of late, hitting at a .429 (6-for-14) clip over the past seven games, including 5 R, 2B, 2 SB over that stretch. Chloe Kaneko (.364, 8-for-22, 3 R, 2B, 3 RBI) has also been swinging that bat well over that span.
RF Lauren Tomey had a team-best 13-game on-base streak from Feb. 15-Mar. 2. that coincided with a team-best nine-game hitting streak. Morgan Kurtz is the only other Torero to post an on-base streak of at least 10 games; she had a 10-gamer from Mar. 2-16.
