SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros (22-27, 7-13) wrap up the 2013 campaign with a four-game series at Santa Clara this Saturday and Sunday. Both days' doubleheaders are slated to begin at 12 pm. Toreros complete sweep of Santa Clara
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team had to go into extra innings again, but was able to complete the four-game sweep of Santa Clara in Pacific Coast Softball Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex.
The Santa Clara Broncos (6-43, 3-17) were swept in their last series at Utah Valley this past weekend. The Broncos are currently in the midst of a 13-game losing streak. Stephanie Fisher leads the team in hitting this season with a .338 avg., 11 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR and 14 RBI. Casandra Padilla (.277, 3 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI) has also been solid offensively for SCU. The Broncos' pitching attack has been fairly balanced with four different pitchers logging at least 50.0 IP so far this season. Leading the staff is Carissa Theis (3.92, 3-14, 91.0 IP). As a team, SCU is hitting .197 with a 5.09 team ERA.
USD leads the all-time series 50-46. The Toreros have won the past nine contests with the Broncos.

Last Time Out...
The Toreros took one game out of four at Loyola Marymount this past weekend. LMU won the first three games of the series before USD captured the series finale 6-3. Game two went 10 innings, with LMU winning 2-1 on a walk-off sacrifice fly. Jenny Lahitte took the loss in that game but threw 9.2 innings, only allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out six. Game three also went into extras as the Lions got a walk-off home run in the 8th from Sterling Shuster to take the 3-1 victory. In the final game of the series, USD put up four runs in the top of the 2nd and never looked back as Lahitte earned the win in that game (7.0 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 6 H, 6 K, 5 BB). Caitlin Rooney hit .462 (6-for-13) over the weekend with an RBI and two doubles to lead the Toreros offensively., while Lauren Tomey hit her first homer of the year in game one.
Jr. RHP Cassidy Coleman needs 11 strikeouts over the team's final four games to break the USD career strikeout mark set by Jennifer Ellenbeck (2007-10). Ellenbeck had 447 career Ks, while Coleman currently has 437.
As of Apr. 28, USD ranks 17th in the NCAA in team ERA (1.84), while Caitlin Rooney ranks 4th among the NCAA's toughest to strikeout (one K per 48.7 AB). Rooney has struck out only three times in 146 ABs this season. RHP Jenny Lahitte (1.56) sits at 26th in the nation in ERA, while Cassidy Coleman is 34th in strikeouts per 7.0 IP (8.4).
In her last 21 outings, Jenny Lahitte has only allowed three earned runs twice and has allowed fewer than that on every other appearance over that span, including 13 appearances where she has allowed one earned run or fewer. The last time Lahitte gave up more than three earned runs was 4 ER vs. Boise State on Mar. 2. Lahitte, who is 9-14 on the year, has lost 10 games this season in starts where she has allowed two earned runs or fewer.
Sr. RF Lauren Tomey and So. 1B Caitlin Rooney are tied for the team lead with 12 multi-hit games this season. Rooney had two hits in three of her four games this past weekend at LMU. Fr. C/DP Mary Grabowski leads the team with four multi-RBI games this year. She has tallied 2 RBI on three occasions and 3 RBI once this season.
Caitlin Rooney leads the team with a .333 avg. over the the past 10 games. Rooney is 10-for-30 over that span, collecting two doubles, a triple and two RBI to go along with three walks. Rooney's RBI single in the top of the 7th at LMU tied the game and forced extra innings in USD's 2-1 10-inning loss in game two.
