Toreros topped by SDSU in dual meet action

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- It was Senior Day at the USD Sports Center Pool on Saturday afternoon, but even though the Toreros did not come away with a win against San Diego State, USD's five seniors made the most of their final home meet of their USD careers. The Aztecs took the victory by a final margin of 176-118, but not before USD won six events on the day.

Senior Francesca Finucane was a winner in the 200-yard freestyle, taking 1st place with her swim of 1:51.46. Fellow senior Jacquie Kimmel captured the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with her time of 59.16. Kimmel also took 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.59.

USD's 400-yard freestyle A relay featured a trio of seniors in Melissa Andruzzi, Kimmel and Finucane, along with sophomore Taylor Noonan. They teamed to come out on top at 3:33.26 in that event.

Keenan Lineback turned in a couple of strong performances of her own by taking 1st in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.78) and 2nd in the 1000-yard freestyle. Lineback's time of 10:16.82 was a season-best for her in that event.

Sarah Reierson helped the Toreros earn nine points with her top finish in the 200-yard IM (2:11.32).

Lexie Franz clocked a personal season-best in the 100-yard backstroke as USD's top finisher in that event with a time of 58.63. She finished in 3rd place overall.

Andruzzi added a pair of 2nd place finishes to her day when she finished in 1:07.06 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:25.36 in the 200 breaststroke.

Noonan also garnered the 2nd place spot, this time in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in at 5:03.02.

 

 

In the diving action, USD's Mathilda Danckler captured 2nd place in the 1-meter event by registering a score of 297.50, while also taking 2nd in the 3-meter with a score of 297.40, both of which were season-bests for her.

USD now turns their attention to their final dual meet of the season when they head over to UC San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a 12 pm contest before wrapping up the regular season at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships Feb. 20-23 at East Lost Angeles College.
