LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Bri Jurries set another USD school record, clocking in at 2:11.83 in the 200 breast. Jurries' time broke her previous best career time, set a new the MPSF Championship record, and was the fastest time ever at East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium. The Toreros finished the championships in sixth place.
"The 2:11 200 breast was a time I felt I could go for a while now, but seeing it through to execution and not letting the obstacles from the season get in the way of my goal was very fulfilling," Jurries said. "I really didn't even know I was close to the pool and meet record until after prelims, so it wasn't necessarily the target but a happy byproduct of what manifested from a lot of hard work this season."
The Toreros began the evening session with 9th, 13th, and 14th place finishes by Liza Kuznetsova (17:11.02), Gwen Walter (17:24.89), and Morgan Scarth (17:32.41).
In the 100 back, senior Sarah Reierson finished ninth with a time of 2:01.40. In the 100 free Danielle Taylor had the top USD time with a 50.98.
Jurries' first place finish was the first for a Torero swimmer since 2014 when Keenan Lineback won the 1650 free.
The Toreros closed out the evening with a third place finish in the 400 free relay. Jurries, Mackenna Briggs, Danielle Taylor, and Jackie Taylor finished in 3:23.52, just 0.05 seconds off the school record set in 2011.
