Toreros compete well in day one of WAC Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The University of San Diego swimming and diving team had a successful first day of competition at the Western Athletic Conference Championship hosted by the Josh Davis Natatorium. The Toreros recorded two new school records in the 800 freestyle relay, which took second place followed by the 200 medley relay which took fourth place.
"The whole team is sky high right now," said head coach Mike Keeler. "It's still early and we're swimming well so I am looking forward to tomorrow's events."
In the 800 freestyle relay, the "A" squad of Melissa Andruzzi, Francesca Finucane, Sarah Geerdes, and Sarah Gleason finished in a time of 7:25.60. The 200 medley relay "A" squad of Kristyn Deckard, Melissa Andruzzi, Kelly Stone and Jacquie Kimmel finished in fourth place with a time of 1:44.98. Overall the Toreros hold in seventh place with 64 points after day one, with Northern Arizona leading after the first day with 97 points.
Thursday's event list will consist of preliminary events starting at 11:00 a.m. for the 500 Freestyle, the 200 Individual Medley, and the 50 freestyle with the finals to be held at 6:30 in the evening for the 500 Freestyle, the 200 Individual Medley, the 50 freestyle, and 200 Freestyle Relay.
