San Diego, CA - The USD Swimming and Diving team out-swam visiting Loyola Marymount in 9 of 13 events Saturday at the USD Sports Center. Torero freshman Shala VanGerpen and sophomore Ashley Swart each claimed a pair of events, as sophomore Nicole Draa and freshman Alexandra Stauber also captured first place finishes. Ashley Swart, a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, broke her own school record in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:05.06 and took first in the 500 Freestyle (4:57.63).
Shala VanGerpen, a freshman out of Edmonds, Washington, placed first in the 200 Freestyle (1:57.48), narrowly beating out Torero sophomore Kelly Cobourn, who had a time of 1:57.53, by .05 seconds. Van Gerpen clocked in at 2:06.68 to win the 200 Butterfly. Sophomore Nicole Draa placed first in the 100 Freestyle (54.79) and freshman Alexandra Stauber captured first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:27.86).
LMU freshman Lauren Mathewson took first place in both the 50 Freestyle
(25.49) and the 200 Backstroke (2:11.57) and senior Krista Zabor won the 200
