SAN DIEGO, Calif.- University of San Diego junior swimmer Francesca Finucane was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation athlete of the week for her efforts in USD's meet victory this past weekend. Finucane (Palos Park, IL) won a total of three individual events and was part of four winning relays in helping lead USD to victory in the Beach Cup this past Saturday against Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, and Pepperdine.
Finucane captured the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.45 and then went on to take first in the 200 free (1:52.52) and 100 free (52.61). She swam her team's second-fastest time (1:55.73) as the third leg in the 800 free relay that took first. Then, as the leadoff leg in the 200 free relay, Finucane posted a 24.46 50-yard split that helped her relay finish with a top time of 1:37.06.
Finucane rallied her 400 medley relay to victory with a blazing 51.85 freestyle split that was a full two seconds faster than any other freestyle leg in that event. Finally, she helped USD wrap up its final relay victory as the leadoff in the 400 free relay, where she clocked a 100-yard split of 52.76 that was the fastest leadoff leg of that event by over a second.
The Toreros return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28th with a dual meet at cross-town rival San Diego State set to start at 12:00 pm.
