SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego senior swimmer Jacquie Kimmel was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. Kimmel (Chula Vista, Calif.) won a pair of events in USD's dual meet at UC San Diego this past Saturday and helped the 200 and 400 medley relays earn 2nd-place finishes on the day.
Kimmel won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.76, which was the top time on the team for that event this season. She then followed that by winning the 100 freestyle with a career-best 52.65.
This is the first time Kimmel has earned MPSF Athlete of the Week honors. She is the first Torero to earn that recognition since Francesca Finucane on Jan. 25, 2012.
Kimmel and the rest of the Torero swim and dive squad is preparing for the MPSF Championships Feb. 20-23 at East Los Angeles College.
