Toreros rack up eight All-MPSF selections

Complete All-MPSF Selections Get Acrobat Reader

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim team had a total of eight all-conference selections among the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation postseason honorees, released on Tuesday. Freshman Keenan Lineback was the lone Torero selected to the first team, while senior Sarah Geerdes was named to the All-MPSF second team in three different events. Melissa Andruzzi, Francesca Finucane, and diver Heather Hippensteel each earned second-team nods in one event apiece.

Lineback (Conway, SC - Conway Christian) earned first-team honors in the 1650 free with her season-best time of 16:48.82 that she posted in this past week's MPSF Championships, where she finished second in that event. Lineback was also recognized as a second-team selection in 400 IM with a top time of 4:20.73.

Geerdes (Valley Center, Calif. - Heritage HS) was named second-team All-MPSF in the 200 IM (2:02.41), 200 free (1:49.79), and 100 free (50.80). Last season, Geerdes earned first-team honors in the 200 free and second-team recognition in the 200 IM, 100 free, and 400 free relay.

Andruzzi (Chicago, IL - Latin School of Chicago) earned her second-consecutive selection to the All-MPSF second team in the 200 IM. The junior had a season-best time of 2:03.37 in that event. While not getting recognized on the all-conference team for it, Andruzzi posted the team's best times in the 100 breast and 200 breast this season in addition to her success in the 200 IM.

Finucane (Palos Park, IL - Amos Alonzo Stagg HS) took home second-team honors in the 200 free for the second-straight year with her season-best time of 1:50.75. The junior was named MPSF athlete of the week on Jan. 25th and also had the team's top time this season in the 500 free.

Hippensteel (Chapmansboro, Tenn. - Aaron Academy) earned her first All-MPSF honor of her career by being named to the second team in the three-meter diving. Hippensteel posted a score of 210.85 in the MPSF Diving Championships this past week.

The Toreros concluded the season this past Saturday by taking fifth in the MPSF Championships held at East Los Angeles College.
