LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Toreros (1-1) lost to a tough No. 4 UCLA team 4-0 in a rain-delayed match Saturday afternoon in the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The hosting Bruins got off to a good start, sweeping the doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot, the Bruins 16th ranked Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton defeated Shani Blecher and Laura Claus 8-3, which was followed by an 8-6 victory for UCLA's Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez over Anna Depenau and Marta Stojanovic at the No. 2. The final doubles match also went to Bruins way at No. 3 when Kyle McPhillips and Chanelle Van Nguyen beat Cara Brown and Stephanie Hoffpauir 8-6.
In singles play, Hoffpauir lost to the very talented 6th ranked Robin Anderson 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1. That was followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory for UCLA's Catherine Harrison who defeated Marta Stojanovic at the No. 5. The finals singles match to finish was at No. 3 where the Bruins' Chanelle Van Nguyen got past Blecher 6-2, 6-4.
The final three singles matches went unfinished in an attempt to squeeze in the Washington vs. South Florida match before the rain picked up again. However, that match was forced to be suspended due to rain.
The Toreros will face the loser of that match, which continues at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
