LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 61 University of San Diego women’s tennis team (0-2) fell to No. 38 UC Irvine Anteaters (1-1) 4-1 Saturday night at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, ending the ITA Kick Off Weekend for the Toreros.

UC Irvine picked up the first doubles match at the No. 1 spot defeating sophomore Shani Blecher and freshman Colomba DiFilippo 6-0. The Anteaters’ momentum continued as they pulled away with the doubles point after beating
seniors Anna Depenau and Idil Haciraifoglu at No. 3 with a 6-4 victory.

The ‘Eaters’ extended their lead as UCI’s Kat Facey defeated sophomore Mikayla Morkel-Brink 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot. The Toreros answered with a win at No. 1. Sophomore Shani Blecher cruised past UC Irvine’s Marivick Mamiit 6-2, 6-2 in her first dual match win of the season. Although Toreros’ Marta Stojanovic and Anna Depenau were clearly leading in their matches, the ‘Eaters’ were able to clinch with wins at Nos. 4 and 6.

The Toreros return to action in their first home match against UC Santa Barbara, next Sunday, 10:00 a.m. at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
