Feb. 20, 2010

LAS VEGAS - The 56th-ranked USD women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest to the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Toreros drop to 4-5 while the Lady Rebs improved to 7-2 overall.

UNLV set the tone early by not surrendering a single doubles match to the Toreros and subsequently wrapping up the initial match point. Rebel pair of Kristina Nedeltcheva and Jana Albers captured an 8-4 win on Court #1 over Torero tandem Juliette Coupez and Alexandra Demidova. At Court #2, Laura Claus and Maja Sujica dropped their match against the 43rd-ranked duo of Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina by the same score while veteran USD pairing of Justine Perl and Marite Raygada fell to Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi at Court #3 by a mark of 8-2.

In singles action, the Toreros would receive both their points from a pair of sophomores. Sujica playing at Court #3 would up-end UNLV's Hidvegi in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 while Raygada disposed of Reb Ella Bouricher, 6-0, 6-3, at Court #6.

The Rebels would take three of their four points in singles by straight set victories. UNLV's Nedeltcheva, ranked 45th, took out Coupez, 6-1, 6-1, at Court #1. Also winning in straight sets for the hosts were Pavlovic at No. 2 and 72nd-ranked Albers at No. 3.
