TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 74 University of San Diego women’s tennis team (2-5, 0-1 WCC) fell to Arizona (9-1) Saturday afternoon 7-0 at the Robson Tennis Center.   

The Wildcats started off strong in doubles taking the first match at No. 3. Wildcats’ Akilah James and Susan Mc Rann defeated Idil Haciraifoglu and Janine Koleta 8-1. Sophomore duo Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic equalized the scored getting a big win over Arizona’s Lacey Smyth and Shayne Austin 8-6. The Cats narrowly clinched the doubles point, edging out senior captain Anna Depenau and freshman Colomba Di Filippo 8-5.

In singles, the Toreros struggled to get their momentum. After taking wins at No. 5 and 6, Wildcats’ Lacey Smyth clinched the win defeating Blecher 6-2, 6-2.

In the remaining matches Cat’s Akilah James defeated Depenau 7-5, 6-4, while Stojanovic faced a close deficit, losing to Arizona’s Kim Stubbe 0-6, 6-1, 7-6(3).  

The Toreros look to bounce back tomorrow as they go up against the Arizona State Sun Devils at 12:00 p.m. PT.
