SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team defeated No. 55 Sacramento State, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon from the Hogan Tennis Center. The Toreros won the doubles point and four of six singles contests en route to their second-straight win.
USD (3-6) started the day with a doubles victory by Anna Depenau and Maja Sujica at No. 2, improving their record this spring to a perfect 8-0. Laura Claus and Juliette Coupez were defeated at No. 1 by a score of 8-4, before Cara Brown and Stephanie Hoffpauir clinched the doubles point with their 9-7 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Sacramento State (9-7) registered the first win when Sophie Lohscheidt earned a victory after Claus retired at No. 4. The Toreros then went on to win the next four singles matches in a row as Coupez, Hoffpauir, Depenau, and Sujica each posted victories. Marite Raygada was outlasted in the final match of the day at No. 5 by Katharina Knoebl, 4-6, 7-6(4), 11-9.
The Toreros look to continue their winning ways at UC Irvine on Friday, Mar. 16th at 1:30 pm.
