SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-6) fell to No. 39 Texas 5-2 (4-7) Wednesday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center. Anna Depenau and Cara Brownearned the two points for the Toreros, winning their singles matches at the No. 5 and 6.

The Toreros, who were playing their eighth consecutive match against a ranked opponent, lost the doubles point after falling at the No. 1 and 3 spots. Stephanie Hoffpauir and Anna Depenau fell 8-2 at the No. 1 to the 19th ranked tandem of Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott which was followed by an 8-5 loss at the No. 3 to Cara Brown and Marta Stojanovic. Laura Claus and Shani Blecherwon the final doubles match 8-6 at the No. 2. Claus and Blecher have now won three doubles matches in a row.

The Longhorns took an early 2-0 lead after No. 87 Laura Claus was forced to retire at the No. 1 in the first set due to injury. The Toreros would lose the next two singles matches as well after Stephanie Hoffpauir fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 52 Breaunna Addison at the No. 2 and after Marta Stojanovicfell 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4, which clinched the match for Texas.



Shani Blecher then fell 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) to Noel Scott in a hard fought battle at the No. 3. Anna Depenau'smatch also went to a tiebreaking third set where she won in thrilling fashion 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10).

The final singles match also went the Toreros way. Cara Brownwon two close sets 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 at the No. 6 to bring the final score to 5-2.

It was the fourth loss in a row for the Toreros, but all of them have come to ranked teams. The Toreros will face their first unranked team since January 19 on Friday at noon when they take on Wake Forest (1-10) at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.
