SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team (4-6) defeated Wake Forest (1-11) 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club to snap their four match losing streak. The Toreros lost the doubles point but were able to rally back for the win by taking four singles matches.

The Demon Deacons took the first doubles match at the No. 3 after Brigita Bercyte and Andrea Retolaza knocked off USD's Nicole Ramser and Mikayla Morkel-Brink 8-6. Morkel Brink was playing in her first match since January and Ramser was making her Torero debut.

The next doubles match went the Toreros way with Stephanie Hoffpauir and Anna Depenau winning 8-6 at the No. 1. The doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot where Wake Forest's Karen Forman and Xue Zhang edged out Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic in the tiebreaker 9-8 (7-5).

The Toreros were able to snag the first two singles victories. Shani Blecher cruised at the No. 2 winning 6-2, 6-0 and then Anna Depenau won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4. Wake Forest's Kathryn Talbert would win the next match at the No. 1 defeating Stephanie Hoffpauir 6-4, 6-3 to even the score at 2-2.

Mikayla Morkel-Brink followed that with her first win as a Torero, winning 2-6. 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5. The Deacons kept the match close though with Xue Zhang beating Marta Stojanovic 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at the No. 3 to tie it back up at 3-3.



The match came down to the No. 6 spot where senior captain Cara Brown rallied back for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win to give the Toreros a 4-3 win, putting an end to their four match losing streak.

The Toreros return to action on Sunday when they host another top ten opponent, No. 6 Nebraska (15-1), at 10:00 a.m. at the Hogan Tennis Center.
