SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 51 University of San Diego women's tennis team (8-8, 3-1) fell 4-3 to No. 56 San Diego State (11-4) Monday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center to bring their record back to .500.

The Toreros got off to a good start, winning the doubles point after taking two of three. Cara Brown and Marta Stojanovic won 8-1 at the No. 3, which was followed by another 8-1 victory for the Toreros at the No. 1 by Laura Claus and Anna Depenau.

Momentum swung the Aztecs way in singles play, where they won the first four matches to clinch the victory. Stephanie Hoffpauir fell 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 and then Anna Depenau fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3. Next, Mikalya Morkel-Brink was outlasted at the No. 5 6-3, 6-4. Michela Casanova knocked off Cara Brown 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 6 to seal the victory for the Aztecs.

The last two matches went the Toreros way with Marta Stojanovic winning 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 4 and No.108 Laura Claus continued her impressive play with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at the No. 1.

The Toreros return to conference play on Friday when they travel to San Francisco (11-6, 2-3) for a 1:00 p.m. match.
