Torero women move on with 4-1 victory over BYU in WCCs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team topped BYU 4-1 in their first match of the West Coast Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon from the Barnes Tennis Center. The Toreros were able to pull off the doubles point en route to their second victory over the Cougars this season.

USD (11-9, 7-2 WCC) got doubles wins from Anna Depenau and Maja Sujica at No. 2 and Stephanie Hoffpauir and Cara Brown at No. 3. Depenau and Sujica improved to 18-0 in dual doubles on the year with their 8-5 win, while Hoffpauir and Brown have been strong since they started playing together as they improved to 9-3 as a pair.

Singles action saw only one Torero loss, while Juliette Coupez posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 along with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory from Laura Claus at No. 3. Sujica put together a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 to wrap up the Torero victories from the day.

No. 3 seed USD moves on to face No. 2 seed Saint Mary's on Friday in the semifinals at 1:30 pm. The Toreros are looking to bounce back against the Gaels after losing to Saint Mary's in the regular season finale on Apr. 21.
