USD Women Open Season at SDSU Fall Classic I

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team kicked off the 2012 fall campaign at the SDSU Fall Classic I on Friday afternoon. The Toreros played against opponents from North Texas, Pepperdine and Cal State Northridge, racking up three singles wins and two doubles victories on the day.

Stephanie Hoffpauir was victorious in her two matches on the day as she posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Valentina Starkova of North Texas in singles and teamed with Cara Brown for an 8-1 doubles victory over Corinne Schnyder and Leslie Chang of Cal State Northridge. Brown defeated CSUN's Maria Pistalu 6-4, 6-0 in singles action.

Idil Haciraifoglu also earned a singles victory over Emilia Box of North Texas, 6-3, 7-6.

In doubles, Laura Claus and Marta Stojanovic won their match over Michela Casanova and Laura Antonana of San Diego State by a score of 8-3. Claus fell in her singles contest to Pepperdine's Lorraine Guillermo 6-0, 6-1, while Stojanovic was dropped by Ilona Serchenko of North Texas 6-3, 6-4 in singles action.

Anna Depenau and Haciraifoglu lost their doubles match to Barbora Vykydalova and Starkova.

Day two of the SDSU Fall Classic I continues on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
