LAST TIME OUT: Last week USD women's tennis competed at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Desert, Calif. The Toreros came out strong in their first rounds, cruising past all three doubles matches. First time doubles duo Anna Depenau and Janine Koleta defeated Texas A&M's Strickland/Gavrilovska 6-4, while Shani Blecher and Colomba Difilippo beat Texas A&M's Dehez/McCord 6-1. Marta Stojanovic and Mikayla Morkel-Brink also came up with a big win knocking off UCLA's Ray/Shaffer 7-5.

Although singles proved to be an obstacle for the Toreros, seniors Anna Depenau and Idil Hacriafoglu led the team with exciting wins over top teams. Depenau defeated UCLA's Courtney Dolehide 6-0, 5-7, 1-0(6), as Haciraifoglu beat Texas A&M's Paula Deheza 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(7).

SCOUTING THE BRUINS: UCLA enters the week ranked No. 5 in the country. They are coming off a win from Tuesday beating UC Santa Barbara 7-0 in their season opener. The Bruin's roster includes ranked players No. 1 Robin Anderson, No. 9 Chanelle Van Nguyen, No. 24 Jennifer Brady, and No. 36 Kyle McPhillip. Entering her 18th year, head coach Stella Sampras Webster finished last season with a 20-6 overall record, edged by No. 3 Texas A&M in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. The Bruins lead the all time series against the Toreros 14-0.

SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS: The No. 30 TCU women's tennis team earned two dual match wins over Syracuse and UT Arlington last Saturday to go 2-0 to start the season. Led by head coach Dave Borelli, the Horned Frogs include ranked players such as No. 30 Stefanie Tan. Last season the Crimson Tide finished 18-7, falling to No. 3 Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Their all time series is tied 1-0.

The UC Irvine women's tennis team holds a current rank of No. 38 in the country. Mike Edles, in his 18st year as head coach, finished the season losing to the Trojans in the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 23-5 overall record, the best in program history. USD leads the all time series versus the `Eaters' 16-12.

IN THE MIX: Senior Idil Haciraifoglu achieved one of the highest singles records of the team during the fall season. Coming off a good win against Texas A&M in Palm Desert last week, Haciraifolgu looks to make a huge impact in her last season.

MEET THE FRESHMEN: The University of San Diego women's tennis team welcome Colomba DiFilippo of Chile and Janine Koleta of Slovenia for the 2013-14 season. The young Toreros are looking forward to being huge factors in the team's success this season.
