SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team was picked to finish third in the 2013 West Coast Conference preseason poll, which was released by the conference on Thursday. The Toreros, who won their first WCC Championship in school history last season, received 54 points overall. Junior Anna Depenau was one of six WCC players named to the preseason all-conference team.
No. 49 USD came in behind conference favorite No. 33 Pepperdine and No. 40 Saint Mary's. The Waves, who had three players named to the preseason all conference team, received six first place votes and 61 points overall, while the Gaels received three first place votes and 56 points overall.
Santa Clara came in behind the Toreros at fourth with 40 points. The Broncos were followed by BYU (34), Loyola Marymount (28), and San Francisco (26). Rounding out the poll was Gonzaga (16) in eighth place and Portland (9) in ninth.
Depenau (Geilenkirchen, Germany), who holds a 47-25 career singles record, was named to the all-conference team in both singles and doubles (w/ Maja Sujica) last season and was an honorable mention selection in her freshman season.
The Toreros, who fell one spot to No. 49 in the latest ITA rankings, return to the courts Friday February 8 to host No. 5 Stanford at 12:00 p.m.
