SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team receives its first honors this season with West Coast Conference Doubles Players of the Week recognition as senior Anna Depenau and freshman Colomba DiFilippo took home the honors for April 16, 2014 announced by the WCC on Wednesday morning.
Last week, Depenau and DiFilippo knocked off San Francisco’s Thyra Taune and Sofia Holmberg 8-6, while cruising past No. 52 BYU’s Nicolette Tran and Savannah Ware 8-4. The tandem have taken down several teams apart of nationally ranked squads such as No. 34 St. Mary’s and No. 72 Santa Clara (rankings noted on scheduled day of play). Not only have Depenau and DiFilppo stayed perfect in their last week, the duo currently holds a nine-match winning streak.
As a pair, Depenau and DiFilippo are first on the team with a 10-4 doubles record on the year in regular season, playing exclusively at No. 2. This is the first player of the week nod for either player this season. The duo is coming off a win against cross-town foe San Diego State yesterday afternoon 8-2, helping the Toreros (9-10, 4-4 WCC) clinch the doubles point and eventually wining the match 4-3.
Depenau and DiFilippo will look to help USD post a win in their final match of the regular season this Saturday at the Portland Pilots, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT.
