SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros get ready for their last two matches of the regular season this weekend. The women head to San Francisco Friday to play USF then travel to Santa Clara on Saturday. USD holds a 8-12 record and is 4-3 in conference play.
LAST WEEK: The Toreros had a two tough matches against WCC teams last week. On Thursday they matched up against Loyola Marymount but lost in a 4-2 decision. On Saturday the women played the No. 1 seed in the WCC, No. 17 Pepperdine. They were toppled in a 4-0 shutout. Despite the double loss, two Toreros have been striding strong together.
Maria-Paula Torres and Sophia Chow are on a six match win streak in doubles. They are undefeated in conference (5-0) and hold a 7-2 overall record. The duo has the chance this weekend to go undefeated in conference for the entire regular season.
CONFERENCE COMPETITION: Santa Clara and USF competed against each other last week. The Dons took the win from the Broncos in a 4-3 decision. The Dons improved to 5-14 overall and 2-5 in conference. Santa Clara fell to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in conference.
This weekend marks the last of regular season play for all three teams and the last chance to improve their conference record before the WCC Championship April 27-30. San Diego plays USF Friday at 1:30 p.m. followed by Santa Clara Saturday at 11 a.m.
