SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team's Anna Depenau and Marta Stojanovic were all named to the WCC All-Academic Team the conference office announced Thursday. The Toreros were marked as two of the highest GPAs in the West Coast Conference.
Senior Anna Depenau (Geilenkirchen, Germany) holds an impressive 3.86 GPA while double-majoring in Finance and Marketing. Depenau played primarily at the No. 3 spot in singles, and the No. 2 spot in doubles this season. Depenau achieved the winningest record in both singles (19-7) and doubles (12-5) on her team, only dropping one singles match in conference play. This is the third consecutive year that Depenau has earned WCC All-Academic. Depenau was also named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2011 and 2012, and figures to receive that honor again this season.
Sophomore Marta Stojanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) is a Behavioral Neuroscience major and holds a remarkable 4.00 GPA. Stojanovic, who was also named to the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll last year, played primarily at the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles spot this season. Stojanovic finished the 2013-14 season with an 11-17 overall singles record.
Last week, the Toreros ended their season after a loss in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament in San Diego at the Barnes Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Toreros fought back in what would lead to a deciding match at the No. 2 spot. With the each point neck and neck in a third set tiebreak, the Broncos narrowly pulled out the victory taking the match 4-3. The Toreros finished the season with a 10-12 overall record.
