SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team had a total of seven All-WCC selections in singles and doubles as well as the WCC Coach of the Year in Sherri Stephens, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Stephens won her second-straight coach of the year honor and third of her career after leading the Toreros to their first-ever West Coast Conference title this season.
Highlighting the honors for USD were senior Juliette Coupez and sophomore Anna Depenau, who both earned first-team All-WCC recognition in singles. Junior Laura Claus earned honorable mention honors as well. In doubles, Depenau and senior Maja Sujica took home first-team accolades, while Coupez and Claus were named to the second team.
Coupez (Lesquin, France) earned her second-career first-team singles nod after posting a record of 23-9 overall and 15-6 in dual singles playing primarily at No. 1. Meanwhile, Depenau (Geilenkirchen, Germany) was named first-team All-WCC for the first time in her career. She was the only Torero to garner an ITA national singles ranking this season, coming in as high as No. 97, and has a record of 21-10 overall and 15-6 in dual singles playing mostly at No. 4.
Claus (Wiesbaden, Germany) is making her third appearance on the All-WCC honor roll for singles after being a second-team pick in 2010 and a first-team selection in 2011. She is 21-9 overall this season and 11-5 in dual singles.
Depenau and Sujica (Zagreb, Croatia) have put together one of the best doubles seasons in USD history by going 19-1 in dual doubles and 23-5 overall. They established a new USD record for dual doubles wins by a pair this season. This is Sujica's second team appearing on the All-WCC first team in doubles (she previously did it in 2009 w/ Tammy Kevey), while Depenau and Sujica earned honorable mention honors as a pair in 2011.
Coupez and Claus are 11-9 overall and 9-7 in dual doubles action. This is Coupez's second time being a second-team selection (she was in 2010 w/ Sujica), while Claus has been an honorable mention pick in doubles the past two seasons.
USD is preparing for their first-round matchup in the NCAA tournament vs. Vanderbilt on Apr. 11 at 11:00 am at USC's Marks Stadium.
