Senior power ignites the track for the Toreros
Sarah Kapple & Andrea Hughes lead Toreros once again
For the second week in a row, Kapple (800m) and Hughes (3k) set new school records
Matthew Smith also broke his own school record
Hughes, Kapple and McClaughlin turn in top-5 performances
Honors & Awards:
• WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll - 2014, 2015 & 2016
Junior (2015-16): Competed in every race except for one in the fall... Beat her previous personal best time in the 6k by a full minute (21:41.7)... Raced in every competition in the spring, setting a new personal record five times: 5k (17:49.47), 1500m (4:42.25), 800m (2:17.04), and 10k (38:49.42).
Sophomore (2014-15): Competed in four races during the fall... Ran a personal best time of 22:41.6 at the Bronco Invite... Also competed in the Mark Covert Invite 5k (20:08.6), the UC Riverside Invite (24:21.5), and the WCC Championships (23:01).... Set personal bests in the 800m (2:18.57), 1500m (4:47.41), and 5k (19.09.46) in the spring season.
Freshman (2013-14): Set a personal best in the 6k with a time of 23:14 at the Bronco Invite... In the spring had a season-best time of 2:20.03 in the 800m at UC Irvine (5/2/14)... Ran a personal best time in the 1500m in the last meet of the year (Oxy Invite 5/12/13) with a mark of 4:48.02... Named to WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.47 GPA).
High School: Was a four-year letterwinner at South Medford High School... Also earned four varsity letters in soccer, where she was a first-team all-league performer as a senior and a three-year captain.
Personal: Born July 31, 1995 in Dallas, TX... On why she chose USD: "I wanted to experience a new place that didn't rain as much as Oregon, so San Diego seemed like the place to go. USD has great academics as well as a great athletic program that compliment each other very well"... Was also recruited by the University of Portland, Lewis and Clark, and Pepperdine... Enjoys hiking, camping, and rafting.
