San Diego, CA - Toreros lit up the night with their outstanding performances at the SDSU Aztec Inviational this past weekend. Racing under the lights is every runners fantasy. The night clearly showed an overflowing list of personal bests clocked by our Torero runners.

Early Friday, the day was kicked off by senior hurdler Stephanie Tucker who ran two season bests in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. However, this was only the start of an impressive day of Torero track running.

With a last minute call to switch all 3k men and women over to the 5k race, our Torero runners took no prisoners. Senior Lauren Infusino ran a personal best time of 18:54.57 to lead the Toreros. The pack was solid all the way through including freshman Dani LeMiex running a personal best of 19:30.54 and sophomore Kathryn Adamson smashing her personal best with a time of 20:29.71.

These ground shaking performances were shortly followed by the 5k men who were lead by senior John Cutter who ran a smoking time of 15:41.98. He was closely followed by fellow senior Jacob Bruce, who sped to the finish and ran a personal best of 15:45.61. To add to the growing list of personal bests were sophomore Justin Brown-Pinozotto, senior Ciano Ordinola, and sophomore Neil Martin.

As the sun set on an already blissful day, night fell over the Aztec track and Torero runners lit up the night and tore up the track. The 1500 meters is gutsy race that few are able to run without the mental strength, physical ability, and heart. These just happen to be exactly what Torero running is all about. In the first heat, freshman Lindsay Benster started out her season on the right foot running a 5:05 and placing second within her heat. With everything off to a great start the performances following continued the thrills and excitement under the lights. Senior Emerald Raney showed her heat what she was really made of by making a surge in the last 200 meters to take a heat win with a time of 4:53.2. In the final heat, junior Gillian Gorelik came within a second of the USD school record and ran a personal best of 4:42.46. The performances by Raney and Gorelik named them co-MVPs of the weekend.

The two lone soliders were the last up for Friday night lights, junior Rudy Mendoza and freshman Ashton Padberg. Mendoza ran a his 1500 meter race with no regrets as he pushed the pace each lap to try and shake his competition. His gutsy tactic resulted in a second place finish within his heat and a personal best time of 4:11.07, which earned him the title of MVP of the weekend for the men. Padberg closed out the night with a solid 3,000 meter race and neared her personal best this season.

After a great deal of personal bests being posted Friday night by our Torero runners there were high expectations for freshman Malik Hayes. With this kid's love for racing and ability to thrive under pressure this 800 meter Invite was just another time for him to shine. A very fast group pulled Hayes through two laps to a blazing time of 1:54.1, shattering the previous USD school record.

With the overflowing laundry list of personal bests resulting this weekend, our Torero runners continue on their quest to a very successful 2013 track season!
