IRVINE, Calif. - The Toreros track team had a strong showing Saturday at the Steve Scott Invite taking numerous wins and personals best times. The USD team was tuning up for their last race that will be run next weekend at Occidental College.

“We had another outstanding day of racing, the team pulled through and won four heats at Irvine. There were 11 personal bests set today and many that were near their best,” Head Coach Will Guarino said. “The 800m and 1500m are highly technical races and you must have the right ingredients go for you to perform at your best.”

A notable performance came from freshman Natalie North-Cole, who won her heat of the 1500m. She kept on picking people off and powered through the last 60m to a victory. “I was hurting, but kept on doing everything to pick each racer off, and when I got to the last one, it slung me into a personal best and a win for our team,” Natalie North-Cole said after the race.

Max Pedrotti and TJ Hodges teamed up for a one-two punch in their respective heat. “I pulled up to Max in the second lap and told my teammate, ‘Let’s get this done,’ and so we worked together until Max pulled away with 400m to go,” team captain TJ Hodges said.

The next and last opportunity for team racing will take place at Occidental next Saturday May 7.
