Jimmy Lundgren joins the USD volleyball program as an assistant coach. Lundgren replaces Marie Zidek who took a head coaching position with DePaul University.

"I am excited to announce the addition of Jimmy Lundgren as assistant volleyball coach at the University of San Diego," said Jennifer Petrie, USD head coach. The Cougars finished third in the GSAC and with a fifth-overall ranking in the NAIA. Lundgren was again part of the 2010 APU staff that led the Cougars to a fourth place GSAC finish and No. 8 NAIA ranking. He received his second AVCA 30 Under 30 award after the 2012 season.

Lundgren played a season at Palomar College while coaching the men's volleyball team at his alma mater, San Dieguito Academy HS. In that span, the team finished third in the division twice and won the Coastal Conference title in back-to-back years alongside with Dexter Harvey. As a high school athlete Lundgren led his team as a setter and captain and was named All-Coastal League first team and All-San Diego County first team his senior year with SDA finishing third in the country his final season.

He competed on the APU men's club team, leading them to a Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League Central Division championship. In 2009, Lundgren toured in Russia with Athletes in Action as the team's setter. In 2010, he was the team's libero and faced Brazil's Junior National Team and three professional Brazilian teams. As the head coach, he led APU club team to an undefeated Central Division title in 2012 and in 2013 as the team finished fifth at the NCVF tournament (National Collegiate Volleyball Federation). Two athletes were later named to the all-tournament team.

Lundgren graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in media studies from APU in 2009. Lundgren earned his Master of Science in Physical Education in December of 2010.
